Trevor Benjamin has been enigmatic during his brief stay at POSH.

Many fans would call him a lot worse than that though as he has consistently under performed and been loaned out twice.

He arrived last summer providing a boost to Mark Wrights squad building. After all Benji had been a success down the road at Cambridge before being found out at the top level in that Leicester strike partnership with Ade Akinbiyi.

He had drifted after that period of his career and had latterly turned up at Coventry and Northampton before making the move to London Road.

There was an immediate problem with his relationship with fellow new recruit James Quinn.

Neither of them were scoring many goals… in fact Benji hadn’t bagged any.

He was quickly farmed out on loan to Watford. Adrian Boothroyd needed cover for his Premiership push but the Big Trev didnt get a look in there.

He came back and featured in a POSH side that was beginning to gel together. He even scored as ‘boro romped into a two nil lead at top side Wycombe.

Sadly Wanderers came back to draw the match at the Causeway with two late goals but again there was hope for Benji.

But he would soon be loaned out again.

This time to league one strugglers Swindon, and it was there he stayed until the end of the campaign.

Everyone in Peterborough thought that was that. But in last nights local media, Keith Alexander has said that there is a way back for the player.

Cynics might say that Alexander has made his comments on the back of the fact that Benji has been described as a ‘powerful, pacy’ striker throughout his career, even though he hasnt showed that at London Road.

But I can’t imagine the boss making such comments without having seen him play or discussed his future with those who were at the club last season.

People are fearing that POSH will become more, how shall I say it?, ‘direct’ in their attempts to get out of league two next season. Which is interesting to note because they have hardly played silky football in recent seasons.

I think that the release of creative winger David Farrell and the public backing of Trevor Benjamin shows that the new regime will look to ‘bully’ their way up the table, and if passion and commitment are to become new words to describe Peterborough United next season, I for one will be happy.
