Restored to the starting line-up on Saturday, Craig Mackail-Smith had a sparkling game.

His work rate typified exactly what was needed after the sending-off of Gabriel Zakuani redeuced Posh to ten men.

His strike partner, Aaron McLean, also played his part and both received accolades from Darren Ferguson after the match.

Praise was also forthcoming from the opposition bench with the Northmapton Town manager, Stuart Gray, holding up Mackail-Smith and McLean as ideal strike partners for his own strikers to model their game on proclaiming,

‘They haven’t only got goals in them, they have work-rate, commitment and desire.”

‘Mackail-Smith and McLean caused Chris Doig and Mark Hughes problems at times, even when we were in possession.”

‘They chased things down and make bad balls into good balls, and good balls into better balls, so that is an example to my forwards.”

‘They have to look at the work-rate those two put in, and the rewards they get.”

‘They both feed on mistakes, and they force mistakes because they close people down.’

It`s kind of nice when the opposition come out with such remarks isn`t it, even when it is Northampton!
