Posh – Competition for Places!

As the new Championship season beckons, is it really less than a month away, our club skipper has commented on the competition for places the new boys will introduce.

With Darren Ferguson having signed Frecklington, Rowe and Diagouraga on a permanent basis and young defender Pearce on a loan basis, Russell Martin is adamant they`ll all prove to be good acquisitions.

In an interview with the local media, Russell Martin is quoted as saying,

‘I think the manager has added good quality over the summer which will undoubtedly put a little bit more pressure on and that is definitely a good thing.’

‘We are facing a massive task next season in the Championship and we will need that kind of competition in the group to keep everyone at the top of their game.”

‘And that includes me. Charlie played at right-back against Spurs and did well but that does not surprise me at all as he is a quality player with great versatility.”

‘He can play in a number of different positions which is great for the team but at this stage I could not second guess what the manager’s plans are.”

‘I am very confident in my own ability but we will have to wait and see what happens and if the manager decides to give Charlie a run at right-back then I would take it on the chin and just knuckle down to get back in the side.”

‘But I am not thinking about that too much at the moment. I feel fit, in good form and raring to go.’

So are we Russell, so are we, we can`t wait!
