Anxiety is beginning to grow as to whether our leading scorer for the last two seasons, Craig Mackail-Smith, will be fit for the first game of the Championship season, against Derby County.

Mackail-Smith, who has been struggling with a persistent groin problem, is pencilled in to return in our last pre-season friendly (Oxford) before the Championship campaign commences.

Speaking about the situation to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, Darren Ferguson has commented on Craig`s situation,

‘He’ll start training again later this week,’

‘We hope to get him fit for the Oxford friendly and if he comes through that he will be fit for Derby.’

Fingers crossed everyone!
