He may well be our top socrer and on course to better his total of last season but in the absence of any football involving Posh, courtesy of the big freeze, reportable news is pretty scarce.

However, we did come across a little snippet in the Saturday addition of the Sun that was supposed to play a part in the build up to our League One clash at Tranmere, a clash that was subseqently called off.

The article gives us a tremendous insight into the route Craig Mackail-Smith had to take to ge tinto professional football.

Did you know his orute started in a gardening centre?

Take it away Craig,

“I was at college when I was playing football during my teens. But I also worked in the garden centre near my parents` home in Watford.”

“I used to take plants home to my mum and do the garden, keeping it nice and tidy, so I suppose that was my expertise. It was great but I hope I don`t have to go back to it.”

Well we`re failry certain that will not be the case Craig, in fact w`re convinced you`re desting for higher things.

But continuing with the ealry days of his career, Craig goes on to recall his route to Posh recalling,

“I played in the St Albans senior side when I was 15 or 16, which was great and really helped me improve.”

“But sadly they didn`t want me. They said I could stay and sit on the bench or leave.”

“It benefitted me in the end because it set me on the path that has led me to Peterborough.”

“I signed for Arlesey and then progressed to Dagenham. It`s been a bit of a journey but I`ve enjoyed every minute.”

“I`ve learned a lot and it has helped me appreciate playing football full-time.”

I`ve always said those that come into football via the hard route appreciate it`s glamour more!
