Rumours persist that Barry Fry was the subject of some abuse, from disgruntled fans, following our latest reverse, this time against Bristol City.

If so, we wholeheartedly agree with our owner, Darragh MacAnthony, who has responded to the barbed comments in fine style remarking,

‘I don’t trust many people, but I trust Barry Fry completely. I have a structure in place with a chief executive and a director of football and I’m very happy with it.”

‘Every club should have a director of football and we have one of the best. I don’t know how managers who don’t have directors of football get anything done.”

‘Barry is a law unto himself and he has a bubbly, infectious personality. He sometimes says things he shouldn’t in the press, but it is a myth that he interferes in team selection, transfer targets and things like that. “

‘I was with some fans recently and told them to give up knocking Barry. If you are questioning his role then you are questioning my judgment.’

Perhaps these same people should be reminded of just what Barry Fry did when the club was in such dire straits it almost disappeared off the radar!
