We`ve previously carried a couple of articles whereby it`s been implied that Posh want to sign a name striker this transfer window.

Darren Ferguson has recognised that a injury or suspension to Aaron McLean or Craig Mackail-Smith could leave him short up front, he`s also recognised that another striker could see Posh adopt another style.

We even, as the suspense grew, asked you to speculate as to who you thought the potential candidates could be.

It now transpires that a name chucked up by the rumour-mill; that of Rickie Lambert isn`t far off the mark.

Lambert, who is the divisions` top scorer with eighteen goals is seemingly on our radar.

Unfortunately, it`s doubtful that a deal will materialise as Bristol Rovers are stating that Lambert is not for sale, at any price prompting Barry Fry to remark on the local radio station,

‘We didn’t make a bid but obviously Lambert’s a player every team would be interested in.

‘We’ve been told by Bristol Rovers he’s not available at any price and we understand that.’

But, Fry claims that Lambert isn`t the only target with a Premier League striker also on the radar, but once again the deal seems to have run into difficulties with Fry proclaiming,

‘Despite agreeing everything with a Premier League club, we’re finding it hard to get the player and agent to agree a move to us.

Stay tuned this transfer saga, this January, could run and run!
