Posh – MacAnthony Holds His Hands Up!

When Mark Cooper was announced as the new Posh manager, succeeding Darren Ferguson, there were those who believed it was an ill-advised appointment.

Many questioned whether the Kettering boss had the experience, or know-how, to manage a Championship side that was bottom of the table. Other gasped at the fact that Posh had let go – the best young manager in Britain – as Darren had once been described.

Reflecting on the events of recent weeks, Darragh MacAnthony has broken the press silence he talked about not that long ago, to talk about the situation. In a frank statement he assumes full responsibility for what has gone on and has this to say about what took place,

‘I have no doubt that Mark Cooper will be back in management sooner rather than later, but his position became untenable.’

‘We lost eight times in 13 games, including five defeats in January where we conceded 12 goals and only scored one, and I felt it was time for a change for the good of the club.”

‘I take full responsibility for the recruitment and departure of Mark and will always hold my hands up when something does not work out for the club because of a decision that I make.”

‘Mistakes get made but it’s not how you make them that matters, it’s how you fix them and hopefully we can get back to winning football matches.’

However, we here at Vital Posh feel those crucial thirteen games when Cooper were in charge have helped shape our destiny this season and the omens are not good.

But the official club mantra would seem to suggest that all is not lost with MacAnthony remarking,

‘I can only give Posh fans my word that I will make it up to all of them for the events over the last three months.”

‘There haven’t been a lot of great times for us in the Championship and our confidence is at a serious low point at present, but I have appointed the right manager now.”

‘Jim will take us forward and install some much-needed confidence all over the club from top to bottom, and we will have a good go at these last 18 games.’

By Cooper`s reckoning we needed ten wins to ensure survival, with only eighteen games left there`s not much room for error is there!

this guy wouldnt talk to the media in scotland, refused to sign a contract at motherwell so ended being told to get lost, and had similar problems dealing with the bardroom at stockport. imo a very odd appointment considering where Posh are and the stability they so need.
