For weeks, ever since it was suggested Posh were looking to sign a new striker in the January transfer window, we`ve been pondering over who it might be.
Various names were put forward but it appears we were all wide of the mark.
Today, Barry Fry has revealed that the player in question was the Arsenal youngster, Jay Simpson, and that any ambitions to recruit him, probably on loan, have been quashed by the so-called bigger clubs.
Speaking to the local media, Fry has remarked,
‘We won’t be getting the striker we really wanted to bring in and he will most probably be playing against us at the weekend.
‘Jay is a cracking young talent who Darren identified about 18 months ago. He has had a few games for Arsenal and did well when he was at Millwall.
‘Arsenal weren’t prepared to loan him out until they were knocked out of the Carling Cup and we were first in the queue when that happened.
‘Unfortunately for us clubs like West Brom, Derby and Norwich came on the scene and when that happened the lad understandably wasn’t interested in coming here.’
Oh well, what isn`t meant to be isn`t meant to be!
