Posh – Not a Sight-Seeing Trip!

Last year Newcastle United and Peterborough United were separated by two divisions.

Circumstances conspired to see Posh promoted and Newcastle relegated on the last day of the season.

Newcastle are a club that demands top flight football, their support 9and fan-base) is enormous and the prospect of pitting our wits against them was, in August, the one fixture many of us were looking forward to.

I`ve only been fortunate enough to see St James Park (or whatever it`s called this week) on the television. On Saturday I`ll get my first glimpse of probably the best stadium in the Championship.

No doubt I`ll stand and admire the architecture and I`ll sit and take in the atmosphere as the Geordie nation urges their team on. You never know I might even sing myself hoarse cheering our lads on.

But then again I`m entitled to do that, our players are not, they`ll need to get stuck in, they`ll need to ignore what`s around them and fight for the Posh cause.

Ahead of the game, Darren Ferguson has spoken about his own memories of playing at St James Park, remarking,

‘When I was playing, I loved these matches and my own players are the same now. This is the match that the players and fans would have looked for first when the fixtures came out.”

‘Newcastle is a huge footballing city and their fans are right up there with the best in the country.”

‘But we are not going up there to enjoy the occasion; we are going up there to work and to get three points.”

‘In our situation we have to find a way of winning the match so I want three points far more than I want to see a great spectacle.’

Suits me Darren, I wouldn`t complain if we bore the pants of the Geordie nation and scrape a dodgy last minute winner from a disputed penalty that has to be retaken five times!
