Posh – Spin Doctoring!

If spin were a word associated with football there`d be some candidates out there who would be candidates for spin master of the decade.

The ability to put some good spin on a catastrophic defeat never ceases to amaze me.

On a scale of one to ten I`m not sure where Mark Cooper would be ranked, perhaps it`s far too early in his managerial reign to assess such a situation.

Therefore, although we suffered a defeat at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday, I`m prepared to acknowledge that Mark`s words on the events that saw us come back from 2-0 down to be drawing 2-2 and then lose 3-2 have a very real element of truth about them when he says,

‘Anyone who saw this game would know we are far from the worst team in the Championship.”

‘I could easily have been celebrating three points rather than bemoaning a loss. In fact I should have been.”

‘We looked a threat going forward for most of the game, but we lost because we defended set-pieces very badly.”

‘I felt we could have got after Coventry more in the early stages to test their fragile confidence, but we never looked in any danger at the other end and then suddenly we are two-nil behind.”

‘We told the players at half-time that we have to be better than that and they responded well. All of a sudden we score two quick goals ourselves and we were flying, while they were down.”

‘But we don’t defend another set-piece properly. We lose the first header and then no-one else gets near Eastwood who hammers it home.”

‘Even after that we looked dangerous. We had two efforts cleared off the line and my lads are adamant there was a handball in the area by a defender.”

‘It was very frustrating to lose in that manner, but there will be no giving up. We just have to make sure we are better at the back because with the quality we have we will always create problems for opposition defences.’

Let`s hope we`re not singing from the same hymn sheet come April or May next year! If so we could well be listening to the king of positive spin!
