When promotion was achieved, last May, there were many who thought that Posh would merely seek to consolidate this season, that a mid-table position would be a success.

Now, as promotion beckons for a second successive season, a failure to make the Championship would, no doubt, put a damper on the season, a damper that might be hard to shake off.

Speaking about the current situation, Darren Ferguson proved what a chip off the old block he is by remarking,

“It`s easy to say I knew we`d do well in League One but we felt we had a chance. I told the players from the off that although we`re in a different league, our ability doesn`t change.”

“We`ve got a lot of ability in the dressing room.”

“There were the obvious candidates to go up like Leicester and Leeds, but it doesn`t always work out that way.”

“I am confident my players could perform at a higher level.”

“The majority of my team would definitely cope in the Championship.”

Let`s hope they get that chance, don`t fail us now lads!
