And so, as the games remaining decrease and the struggle to survive in the Championship becomes harder by the day, we face what could well be our last chance of giving ourselves even a glimmer of hope of survival.
On Saturday we entertain Coventry City and next Tuesday we stage the re-arranged game against Sheffield United. Anything other than six points will see the Fat Lady prepares to give us her unwanted final serenade.
But there is every reason to be optimistic with Jim Gannon currently having a 100% home record since taking charge. Can he instigate the commencement of the start of the great escape to end all great escapes?
Personally, I think our continued poor away form will prove to be a hindrance too far.
Looking ahead to the visit of Coventry though, it promises to be a lively affair. Our visitors have already sold 2200 tickets and have requested a further 1000 tickets. Apparently it is the biggest travelling support Coventry have taken to a Championship away game this season, quite why a visit to London Road appears so attractive might escape the mindset of many.
Chris Coleman brings his Coventry side to London Road on a good run of form; his charges have won four games on the trot and approach the fixture in a buoyant mood.
Posh, on the other hand, could be forgiven if a few of the faces in the squad seem a little unfamiliar, such has been the pace of change when it comes to players coming and going in recent weeks with the latest to exit being the crowd pleasing George Boyd.
Whether there will be any more prior to kick-off remains anyone`s guess, current favourites to be operating on pastures new being Craig Mackail-Smith and Lee Frecklington.
Two players likely to feature though are the Gannon era signings, Liam Dickenson and Mark Little. The former got his Posh career off to a great start and the latter will be looking to do something similar with these words of encouragement, from Gannon, ringing in his ears,
‘Mark is a player I know well.’
‘I have seen him play for Wolves at this level and I have seen him play for Northampton and Chesterfield.
‘He is a solid right-back who can extend and get forward and I am sure once he gets some games under his belt we will see him defend well and get forward and support the attack.’
Unfortunately the small matter of games under his belt underlines the crux of the Posh problem with it being widely accepted that when Gannon took over time was never going to be on his or our side.
So can Posh be the ones to bring to an end Coleman`s recent winning run? Off course we can. It may require an element of good fortune and it may be by the narrowest of margins but whilst it`s mathematically possible for us to stay up you`ve got to show some kind of faith, despite all the negative vibes.
We`re going for a 2-1 Posh win with Dickenson staring again and then the whole circus will get ready for the visit of Kevin Bracewell and his Sheffield United side on Tuesday with the games now starting to come thick and fast as the season approaches its climax.
