Posh v Newcastle Preview!

After getting that `rubbish` tie out of the way, or Ipswich Town to all those who missed the graphic description offered by a familiar suited gentleman at London Road, Posh now face the challenge of Newcastle United in the third round.

It is the only tie between two Championship sides in the round and you can`t help feeling that the team who wants it more (and decides to play their strongest side) will win it.

Already there are rumblings from Tyneside that Newcastle will be fielding a weakened side although many would cite that as impossible considering the turmoil that the club has been through.

However, we do know that Chris Houghton has a couple of injury problems including Danny Simpson who picked up a knock in their fine 3-1 win over Plymouth on Saturday.

As for Posh, the versatile Lee remains our only injury concern but we have an inkling that Darren Ferguson, despite notching up a first Championship win on Saturday, may make a few changes.

We suspect that we may see Tommy Rowe and Krystian Pearce given a run-out although we`d hope the nucleus of the team will remain strong.

The tie provides us with our first meeting against the bar-codes since we were tumbled 4-2 out of the FA Cup in 2002 so you could say we owe them!

But, if you`re looking for an omen then how about this, Newcastle have never beaten Posh in a League Cup tie, let`s keep it that way shall we!

We’re going for a 2-1 win to Posh!
