What did Darren Ferguson and Gus Poyet think about Saturdays match?

Peterborough United

Posh boss Darren Ferguson was disappointed yet again with the result and the poor performance of his team.

“Brighton are close to the play-offs, but they are no better than us. Yet they`ve beaten us twice this season and that`s disappointing.

“We fell well short of the standards the players are capable of achieving and well short of the standards I expect, but we`ve been scrambling to results lately. We haven`t had the sort of dominance we enjoyed in games earlier in the season and we need to get back to that.

“That was a very poor day at the office for us,” Ferguson continued. “That was nowhere near as good as we can be or as good as we will need to be.

“We are much better than we showed here. Our midfielders passed the ball very badly, the tempo to our play was all wrong and we lost our way very quickly.

“They players need to show more belief in themselves and in the way we play. We want to keep the ball for as long as possible, but in this game we were rushing passes and trying passes that were just too difficult.

“Barcelona never change the way they play when they are losing and nor should we. If we keep the ball for long periods the chances to score will come so we don`t need to force the play all the time.

“It`s also a fact that the opposition can`t score if we have the ball, but Brighton did a job on us and they did it very well.

“They just sat deep and waited for us to make mistakes and we obliged them too often. It was simply a very disappointing performance.”

Brighton and Hove Albion

Having won four games in a row against Posh, it is hardly surprising that Brighton enjoy playing Posh.

“For some reason we enjoy playing at this ground against this team. It brings out the best in us.” Poyet said.

“We are slowly getting back to our best form and this was another positive step. We were very good in the first half and reacted well after Peterborough equalised.

“I`m particularly pleased as I have probably just experienced the hardest week of my managerial career. It`s been a tough time, but the players were excellent today.

“We are starting to play the football we know we can play and the football that I want them to play.

“We deserved the win over the 90 minutes and if we had scored a second goal when we were dominating the match we would probably have won more comfortably.

“I`m not thinking about the play-offs. There is still a long way to go, but we are playing well again now and I am confident we can win many more matches.”
