“A lot of positives, but a poor result from our point of view” – Darren Ferguson

Posh boss Darren Ferguson felt there were a lot of positives to come out of the match, despite the defeat. A feeling not echoed by many Posh fans at the match!

Fergie said after the match: “It was a tough opening game for us but there was a lot of positives to come out of it. We dominated the first half but did not create enough chances. The key moment was their first goal. It was a blatant foul. The goal gave them impetus and they got on top.

“I don`t think it was a fair result. We had four one-one-ones, Emile Sinclair had three of them, and the first goal was as clear a foul as you could wish to see.

“When a player has two hands on a defender to help him jump and head the ball, it`s usually given as a foul.”

“Our game-plan had worked perfectly in the first-half. We kept the ball well enough to frustrate them.

“They are a very good side and they were always going to have a spell in the game when they were on top. They managed to take advantage of that.

“Leicester will go close to going up for sure, but we made life hard from them and we should be positive about how we did that.

“In the first-half we didn`t do well enough when we moved towards their goal so there are improvements we can make.

“A lot of positives, but a poor result from our point of view.”

Goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik made his Championship debut and he was happy with the experience and how he performed: “It was a great day apart from the fact we lost of course. That has to be the biggest crowd I`ve ever played in front of and it was a wonderful experience.

“It`s a real dream for me to play at grounds like Leicester`s and with and against such good players. We played well as well considering what we were up against.

“They didn`t create many chances. I was pleased with the one save I made in the first-half [from Bostwick], but the saves I made in the second half were pretty routine.

“We defended well. The boys were well organised defensively and we restricted them to just a few opportunities. We couldn`t do a lot about the goals we conceded.

“We had some chances of our own as well, but didn`t take them and that was crucial. We will come back stronger through and we`ll be ready for the next game.”

#VitalPosh good first half hour but still lacked going forward n were lacking all game up top. Looked like we had one plan n no second plan

What encouraged me yesterday was the first half performance, for much of which we outplayed a team that are favourites to be promoted, I feel that had Barnett been fit or Sinclair fully up to match fitness we may well have put away one or two of the first half chances that were being carved out.

We lost to the team many commentators tip for the title this season, so that’s no disgrace, and it’s not like they over-ran us, even if Bob was called on to make a couple of fine saves. Perhaps if Sinclair had enjoyed a bit more luck and sharpness in front of goal, it may have been different.

Lets face it Freckles isn’t good enough and Newell isn’t someone I think is really ready for the starting eleven yet. I don’t think they’re good enough to start. Freckles especially.
I can’t wait till Kearns, Rowe, Barnett and Laing come back. I don’t think we need to worry about survival. Once we have all of our players fit and injury free we will be a hard team to beat. I remember Reading had a particularly bad start to their season and look where they are now!
I’m still very positive though, just a shame it sounded like we completely gave up in the second half.

Was at the game we did ok first half looked comfortable god knows what happened second half , why Fergie continues to play Frecklington is a mystery to me also Taylor to me just didn’t look interested big cheer for McCann when he came on get him off transfer list Fergie.

Give us space and time and we are ok, not threatening but ok. As soon as Leicester upped the tempo we were struggling. Disjointed and panicky under pressure. Might have nicked a point had Sinclair been match fit, match sharp. Basically though, not enough fire power to occupy their backs who linked well with their midfield and drove forward to put us under the cosh. Basically a ‘must do better’ but some glimmers of hope.
