After suffering that agonizing wait at Colchester whilst MK Dons desperately tried to foil our promotion party with a late equaliser against Walsall, it seems Darren Ferguson was confident all along that we`d go up.

In fact the Scot knew the moment we beat Stockport that promotion was ours and he`s quoted as remarking, in the local media,

‘The Stockport match was the one for me. When we beat them I was convinced we had what it takes to get promoted.”

‘We had been badly beaten at Millwall five days earlier. We didn’t perform at all that night in a big game against one of our promotion rivals in front of the TV cameras so I needed to see a reaction.”

‘And the players didn’t let me down. We only beat Stockport 1-0, but the performance was outstanding and I was then convinced the players had the mental toughness to go with their ability.”

‘We certainly weren’t going to get nervous or bottle it which for such a young team is a terrific compliment.”

‘And I wasn’t surprised. All season we bounced back brilliantly from adversity. When we lost a game, we usually won the next one and that says a lot about my team.’

All I`ll say is I wish you`d have shared those views with me Darren I might not have so many grey hairs and no finger-nails now!
