The signing of Gabriel Zakuani, on loan from Fulham, has been a master stroke. However, with his permanent deal not a feasible option until January 1st 2009, it leaves Posh with a period whereby they`ll be looking elsewhere for centre-back cover.

Likely to fill the breach is Chris Westwood.

Westwood was a key member of Ferguson`s back-four last season and can probably consider himself unlucky to have not played more this season.

Appearances of Westwood, in a Posh shirt, have been fleeting this season, the last opportunity being a cameo against Yeovil last weekend.

Speaking about the experience, Westwood, in an interview given to a local media source has remarked,

‘Not being in the side is a new experience for me, but I understand why it’s happened here. I’ve had injuries at bad times and the manager has signed a player on loan who has done really well.”

‘The team have also performed superbly so I can’t complain too much. All I can do is keep my head down, work hard and wait patiently for my opportunity.”

‘I can’t pretend that I’m happy with the situation, but I fully understand why it’s happened. I’m not going to sulk about it because things can change quickly in football.”

‘It only takes one bad result or an injury or suspension, not that I wish any of that to happen here. I enjoyed it last season and me and Craig got on really well.’

Could that opportunity come when Zakuani is caught in limbo between that loan spell and a permanent spell?
