Posh – What The Bosses Said!

Spirits are on the up in the Posh camp after our fine win over Sheffield United last night.

A solitary goal, shortly before half time, was enough to give Posh a narrow victory. The goal came after Craig Mackail-Smith headed home, from close range, a Mark Little cross.

Jim Gannon had signified his intent to reap maximum reward, points wise, from this fixture by employing a vibrant strike-force of Liam Dickinson, Aaron Mclean and Craig Mackail-Smith mindful of the fact that Sheffield United`s form on the road was very poor with the Yorkshire club having already lost 10 games on the road.

After the match, Jim Gannon gave us a few thoughts on the very matter and also on our continued, up-hill, struggle to avoid relegation when he remarked,

“We were aware of their poor run of form away from home, so this was a game we targeted to win.”

“I genuinely feel we won`t pick up the results we need but all I want us to do is to show fighting spirit.”

“I think it`s important to be brutally honest, it`s not reverse psychology.”

“When I came to the club we had 3 wins out of 28 and we needed to win 9 out of 18, it was an incredible task to ask of the players.”

“I still think it will be a big ask to stay up but we don`t want to finish bottom.”

Last night was win #6 in the Championship this season. With Watford our opponents on Saturday, another side not in the best of form, that charge up the table 9second from bottom) could get a further boost.

As for our opponents last night, their manager, Kevin Blackwell, was on the end of some unsavoury chanting from his own travelling support, with chants of Blackwell Out ringing out as Sheffield United slipped to their 11th away defeat of their Championship campaign, prompting Blackwell to comment,

“If you`re a manager then you have to accept it. But these fans know what problems we`ve got.”

Problems!

We`ll show you problems!
