Peterborough United travel to Premier League side Reading, in the second round of the Capital One Cup.

Venue: Madejski Stadium
Date: 28th August, 2012
Kick-off: 8pm

The Posh will be looking to advance to the third round of the capital one cup, but also to win their first game in four matches.

Reading come into this game on the back of a 4-2 defeat by Premier League big spenders Chelsea, in a game they led 2-1 for a period. They will undoubtedly come into the game full of confidence and expecting a win against a Posh side that have failed to get started so far this season.

TEAM NEWS

Peterborough United

Posh are expected to make a number of changes for this fixture, having lost all 3 of their opening league games this season, in what has been their worst start in 40 years. Danny Swanson is expected to start after he livened things up against Leeds, as is Mark Little, who gave Posh an option attacking down the right wing, which was lacking with Craig Alcock at right back.

Nat Knight-Percival is also expected to play, and will replace Shaun Brisley, who has been below par in the opening games. Jonson Clarke-Harris could also start his first competitive game in a Posh shirt after his free transfer from Coventry City in the summer. But target man, Tyrone Barnett will again miss out as Darren Ferguson doesn’t want to risk any further injury.

Daniel Kearns could also be in contention for the game. He hasn’t featured since going off injured in the pre-season game against Aston Villa, in which he played very well. Posh will be without Tommy Rowe, Dave Hibbert and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing once again. But want away striker Paul Taylor could return to the line-up.

Vital Posh predicts the starting line-up could be:

Olejnik

Little, Zakuani, Knight-Percival, Nthle

Swanson, Bostwick, McCann, Boyd

Clarke-Harris, Taylor

Reading

Reading are expected to play a full strength line-up against Posh. Their game at the weekend was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. This means their big names will have had extra time to prepare, and will not need to be rested.

PREDICTION

We have been very poor in the opening fixtures, but if Fergie decides to ring the changes, the players that come in will be staking their claim for a regular place, and this could lead to a number of good performances, maybe even some match winning ones!

But Vital Posh predicts an unlucky 3 – 2 defeat.

REFEREE

Andy D’URSO takes charge of this clash.

Andy D’Urso has officiated Posh 6 times before. The most recent being the 3-2 away defeat at Watford last season. D’Urso gave a penalty against Posh that day for what he saw as a foul by Grant McCann on Prince Bauben.

He will be assisted by Timothy Wood and Gary Evetts.

The fourth official is Christopher O’Donnell.
