The man in charge of the npower Championship match between Blackpool and Peterborough United is MARK HAYWOOD.

Mark Haywood referees his second Posh match of the season this weekend as he takes charge of the match at Blackpool. His first match officiating Posh this season came in October when Posh lost 1-0 at home to Nottingham Forest thanks to an excellent strike from Andy Reid. One yellow card was issued that day which went to the visitors Greg Halford.

Blackpool have yet to have Haywood officiate them this season.

Married with four daughters, Haywood began refereeing in 1993 in West Yorkshire, and rose through the West Yorkshire and Northern Premier Leagues to reach the national list of assistant referees in 2002.

Haywood was promoted into the national list of referees in 2006 and he has since refereed both the FA Vase and FA Trophy Quarter-Finals, and the 2010 Unibond League Final.

He decided to become a referee after being challenged by a work colleague who was already a match official and afterwards said: ‘I took the course and learnt more in six weeks than I had seen in 28 years as a fan.’.

Despite Blackpool not having Haywood officiate them this season, he did referee three of their matches last season in which they drew one and lost two of them.

Blackpool`s last match with Haywood came in March last year when Posh produced arguably their best performance of the season to beat Blackpool 3-1 at London Road. Goals by Tyrone Barnett [pictured below] and Paul Taylor helped Posh to a 2-0 half-time lead before George Boyd added a third in the second half.

The West Yorkshire based referee has officiated 31 matches so far this season issuing 76 yellow cards and just two red cards. Just under half (15) of the matches have been in the Championship where he issued 34 yellow cards and no red cards.

His last Championship match came Tuesday last week when he officiated the match between Crystal Palace and Hull City. That match saw a hat-trick from veteran striker Kevin Phillips while both sides received just one card each.

The assistant referees for the Blackpool v Posh match are Simeon Lucas and William Smallwodd. The fourth official is Richard Clark.
