The man in charge of the Sky Bet EFL League One match between Fleetwood Town and Peterborough United is ANTHONY BACKHOUSE.

Here we go again, yet another rookie referee!

The man in the middle on Sunday is Cumbrian-based official Anthony Backhouse who is in his first season as a Football League official!

He has refereed 17 games this season and one of them was a Posh match! That came at Oldham Athletic in a rearranged match which the Latics won 3-2. Backhouse started off that match well but went downhill, especially in the second half!

Five yellow cards were shown in the match with just one of them going to a Posh player. Backhouse also sent off a player in that match with the Latics leading by a goal to nil. Marcus Maddison scored the resulting penalty but despite being down to 10-men, the home not only took the lead with 10 minutes remaining but went three-one up five minutes later! Jack Marriott scored a 90th minute consolation but that was all it was!

The Cod Army have yet to have Backhouse as a referee.

Last season, prior to his promotion, Backhouse finished the season officiating at Wembley in the National League Play-Off final between Tranmere Rovers and winners Forest Green Rovers.

Promotion to Level 1 National List of Referees made Backhouse the first Cumberland official in over 40 years to be added to the EFL list, whilst he also becomes the youngest ever from the county alongside being the youngest on the 2017/18 National List of Referees.

Of the 17 matches he has officiated this season, Backhouse has issued 53 yellow cards and 7 red cards!

The last match Backhouse officiated came almost a month ago when he oversaw Port Vale beating Barnet one-nil. Three yellow cards were shown during the match with two going to Vale.

The last League One match Backhouse will be exactly two months to the date! That match was a Lancashire derby between Blackpool and Bury. The Tangerines scored a goal in each half which sandwiched a Shakers goal from Jermaine Beckford.

The assistant referees for the Cod Army v Posh clash are Barry Gordon and Richard Bartlett. The fourth official is Ricky Wootton.
