The man in charge of the Checkatrade Trophy match between Peterborough United and Northampton Town at the ABAX Stadium is GAVIN WARD.

Gavin Ward

Surrey-based official Gavin Ward takes charge of Posh for the twelfth time since being promoted to the Football League 11 years ago.

Posh have had mixed results with Ward in charge having won four of those matches while losing six times including the last two times when Posh lost at Coventry. The last time was in April when the Sky Blues beat Posh one-nil thanks to a Ruben Lameiras goal after 51 minutes. Two yellow cards were shown during the match with both sides picking up one card each.

The Cobblers also had Ward towards the end of last season when they beat Port Vale two-one at Sixfields. All the goals were scored in the second half with Vale`s goal sandwiched between the two Cobblers goals. No cards were shown during the match.

So far this season, Ward has officiated nine matches issuing 31 yellow cards but no red cards.

The last match he officiated came over a week ago when he showed five yellow cards during Bristol Rovers 3-1 win over Blackpool. Former Posh striker Kyle Vassell opened the scoring for the Tangerines with another former Posh striker, Tom Nichols, again missing to target and again being substituted!

His statistics for the last few seasons in the Football League are:

2017/18 – 9 matches – 5 home wins – 2 away wins – 2 draws
2016/17 – 41 matches – 18 home wins – 12 away wins – 11 draws
2015/16 – 35 matches – 17 home wins – 11 away wins – 7 draws

2016/17 – Games 41 – Yellow 150 – Red 6
2015/16 – Games 35 – Yellow 113 – Red 2

His matches involving Posh and the Cobblers to date are:

Cobblers – 13 matches – 5 wins – 2 draws – 6 defeats
