The man in charge of the Capital One 3rd Round Cup match between Sunderland and Peterborough United is MICHAEL NAYLOR.

Michael Naylor

Naylor is in his fourth full season as a football league referee and will be refereeing Sunderland for the first ever time.

The South Yorkshireman has officiated Posh twice in the past with Posh winning one match and losing the other one. The first time was back in the 2010/11 season when Posh defeated Exeter 3-0 in League One thanks to two goals from George Boyd and one from Craig Mackail-Smith. The last time was the following season (2011/12) when Posh travelled to the Welsh capital and then travelled home again following a 3-1 defeat. Cardiff scored three 1st half goals with Posh replying thanks to a 90th minute Paul Taylor goal.

This season, Naylor has refereed just four matches and has issued just four yellow cards. His last match came a week last Saturday when he officiated Hartlepools 2-1 win over Accrington. No cards were issued in that match. Last season, he refereed 30 matches issuing 72 yellow cards and 3 red cards.

The assistant referees for the Black Cats v Posh match are Paul Curry and Geoffrey Liddle. The fourth official is Mark Haywood.
