Peterborough United striker Paul Taylor has signed for Championship rivals Ipswich Town

24-year-old Taylor has signed for an undisclosed fee after spending the last 18 months at London Road. It has been widely rumoured though that the fee is around £1.5million which could rise to £2.5million.

A joint bid for George Boyd and Taylor had been accepted on Tuesday but contract negotiations broke down without either player agreeing terms.

Taylor made an about-turn though and has negotiated a deal beneficial to both himself and Ipswich.
He has now signed a three year contract.

Posh took a gamble when offering Taylor a contract as he has had a very chequered past. He spent his youth at Liverpool, Everton and Manchester City before joining Vauxhall Motors in the Conference in 2007. A six month loan spell at Chester ended when he was given a ban for failing a random drugs test.

He managed to resurrect his career in Belgium with Anderlecht and Charleroi before finally getting back to the UK under the guidance of Darren Ferguson.

He`s had just one full season at Posh and coincidentally made his first League start against Ipswich Town where he scored twice in a 7-1 trouncing. He finished up with 12 goals last season.

Speaking to the official Ipswich Town website, Taylor said: “I feel ready for the challenge here and this is a great move for me.

“Looking around the facilities here, it`s a fantastic club, a massive club and I can`t wait to get going now.

“I spoke to the manager and he told me of the plans he had for Ipswich and I want to be part of it. The talks have been going on for a day or so, I just left that to my agent and I`m just pleased now that it`s all sorted out and I`m an Ipswich Town player.”

Taylor paid credit to Posh for helping him rebuild his career: “Peterborough were great for me. They helped me develop as a player and now I feel I can continue that development at Ipswich.”

Will Posh now look to bring someone in to replace Taylor or will they pin their hopes on the personnel already at the club. Most Posh fans will certainly be hoping a new player is in-coming to replace Taylor but with the transfer deadline shutting tomorrow [Friday, 31st August], time is against Posh!
