Welcome to the next Posh Weekly as we look at the latest news coming out of Peterborough United, what their rival teams in League One are up to and general footie news.

SHEPHARD ADDS TO POSH NUMBERS

Right-sided defender Liam Shephard has put pen to paper on a two-year deal at the ABAX Stadium.

The 22-year-old was released by Premier League Swansea City at the end of last season but completed a successful trial as he impressed during training and also in the opening pre-season win over St Albans at the weekend.

POSH OPEN PRE-SEASON CAMPAIGN WITH A WIN

Posh got their pre-season campaign off on a winning start following a
4-1 victory at St Albans.

Former St Albans striker Junior Morias opened the scoring for Posh after being played in by new recruit Liam Shephard. That goal, on 43 minutes, levelled matters after Leo Da Silva Lopes had conceded a penalty after 26 minutes!

It was attacking pair of Danny Lloyd and Ricky Miller who captured the headlines though as both of them opened their Posh accounts via freekicks with the latter scoring the final goal of the game with a deft chip into the top corner of the goal following a header down from Lloyd.

LOCAL DERBIES ARE ORDER OF THE DAY IN CHECKATRADE TROPHY!

The disastrous Checkatrade Trophy has a slightly different look to it this season after the group were announced.

To avoid any lengthy travelling, all the groups have a “derby” look to them. For example, Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle are in the same group, as are Southend United and Colchester United while MK Dons are in the same group as Oxford United and Crewe Alexandra have a short trip to Port Vale.

As for Posh, they are in the same group as both Northampton Town and Cambridge United!

NEW POSH HOME KIT GOES DOWN WELL

Posh launched their new home kit at the weekend and it has gone down really well.

Jack Baldwin, Junior Morias, Ricky Miller and Gwion Edwards were the players on the cat-walk at Serpentine Green wearing the new kit.

OTHER POSH NEWS

The following are a few other pieces of news to come out relating to Posh:

Posh have extended sponsorship deals with both BGL and Princebuild.

Posh midfielder Chris Forrester had a bit of a cooking mishap on Monday when the frying pan he was using to do a stir-fry in caught fire! Not knowing what to do, he threw the frying pan out of the window!

POSH RUMOUR MILL

Following their takeover by Chinese company 5USport, Northampton Town have set their sights on signing non-other than Michael Bostwick!

Posh are on the look-out for one more signing which would conclude their incoming transfers.
