Welcome to the next Posh Weekly as we look at the latest news coming out of Peterborough United, what their rival teams in League One are up to and general footie news.

POSH SUFFER TWO DEFEATS

Posh have stepped up their pre-season by facing two Championship sides. The matches against QPR and Ipswich Town were both played over 120 minutes with two separate sides each playing 60 minutes. Both matches also ended in defeat for Posh.

In the first match against QPR, both sides put out stronger sides in the first 60 minutes. The Hoops were fortunate to win that one-nil thanks to a deflection off Jamie Mackie`s chest which diverted the ball in the opposite way to the original shot.

The second 60-minute match saw Posh claw themselves back and take a quick-fire lead thanks to goals from Junior Morias. The first via a penalty after Andrea Borg was brought down in the box and then a thunderbolt shot into the corner of the net from a left-footed shot after he had been played in by Tom Nichols. Sadly, that`s where the good news ends as the visitors scored three unanswered goals to win 4-2 overall.

The match against Ipswich Town started well with Posh taking the lead through Jack Marriott against one of his former clubs. An excellent turn and cross by Gwion Edwards laid the ball on a plate for Marriott. The Tractor Boys were level before the first 30 minute break before scoring two very poor goals from Posh`s perspective in the second 30-minute period. Firstly, a quick corner lead to Ipswich`s second goal before the poor Jonathan Bond gifted the visitors their third goal by kicking the ball straight to their forwards who played keep ball before tapping the ball in the net!

The second 60-minute match saw Alex Penny, from Nuneaton Town, get a surprise run out for Posh with youth team striker Kasey Douglas stepping into departed striker Nichols` boots alongside Ricky Miller.

TWO STRIKERS DEPART THE CLUB

Posh have seen two forwards depart the club in the past week; one of whom was on the transfer list while the other one wasn`t!

Luke James, who was on the transfer list, has joined new League Two side Forest Green Rovers on a free transfer.

The other striker, who wasn`t on the transfer list, Tom Nichols, has joined rival League One side Bristol Rovers. The Pirates had made a number of bids for the striker which had all been turned down with Nichols apparently confirming to Posh boss Grant McCann on Friday that he was happy at the club!

One pre-season match later and his attitude changed completely! After a few boos during the match aimed at Nichols, he decided he no longer wanted to be at the club and asked to speak to Rovers!

HAVE POSH PICKED UP A PENNY?

In the latest pre-season defeat for Posh against Ipswich, Posh played a trialist in their back three. That trialist is Alex Penny who plays for Nuneaton Town and is someone Posh have been trying to sign.

Penny played in the second 60-minute match in a back three alongside teenager Sam Cartwright and Michael Bostwick.

OTHER POSH NEWS

The following are a few other pieces of news to come out relating to Posh:

Transfer-listed Posh striker Matty Stevens has been having a trial at League Two side Yeovil Town.

Tickets for the Carabao Cup first round match at the ABAX Stadium against Barnet are now on sale.

Ticket discount membership has been launched by Posh.

POSH RUMOUR MILL

Posh are apparently considering Ollie Hawkins from Dagenham & Redbridge, Matt Godden from Stevenage and Scott Quigley from The New Saints as possible replacements for Tom Nichols.

LEAGUE ONE ROUND-UP

Plymouth Argyle have had to postpone one of their pre-season matches due to butterflies! One of their two pre-season friendlies in the Netherlands has been called off because it clashes with a butterfly market and a cycling race. Apparently, police were too busy with the other events taking place in the town.

A former Posh man has moved between League One clubs on a season-long loan. Striker Nicky Jose has joined Bury from parent club Charlton Athletic.

OTHER NEWS OF INTEREST

Former Posh striker Britt Assombalonga has left Nottingham Forest to join fellow Championship side Middlesbrough in a deal rumoured to be around £15m earning the striker £60,000 per week!

Another former Posh player has made a move between Championship clubs. Lee Tomlin has departed Bristol City and headed across the Bristol Channel to Cardiff City for a reported £2.9 million.

Goalkeeper Dion-Curtis Henry, who departed Posh at the end of last season, has rocked up at Premier League side Crystal Palace. He played his first pre-season match for their Under 23 side, which they won 3-1, at Maidstone United.
