Vital Posh looks at the latest news coming out of Peterborough United over the past week and also what their rival teams in League One are up to.

Joan Hill – RIP

Joan Hill and Barry Fry

We start off with some really sad news to come out of Posh that club champion Joan Hill has sadly lost her battle with cancer. Tributes have been flooding in with just a few of them listed below:

Posh Chairman Darragh MacAnthony
Just wanted to say RIP Joan Hill who passed away. A beautiful human being who will be missed by everybody at Posh.

Barry Fry
She had enormous respect from everybody in football and she gave her heart and soul to every club she ever worked for, and for the last ten years gave her heart and soul to Peterborough.
People would do things for Joan because she had a heart of gold. She was brilliant for the club and the community and will never ever, ever be forgotten.

Grant McCann
Absolutely gutted about the death of Joan Hill couldn’t have met a nicer woman. Looked after me so much when I first came to posh.

Phil Adlam ‏
Very sad to learn of the passing of Joan Hill. A great lady, who did so much for others and will be sadly missed.

Mark Arber
Very sad to hear of Joan Hill’s passing, a real credit behind the scenes at Posh. RIP X

Gabriel Zakuani
R.I.P Joan Hill amazing woman #Pufcfamily

Shane Blackett
Such sad news to hear that Joan Hill from @theposhdotcom has passed away. Top lady who always had a smile on her face! #RIPJoannie

Dean Keates
A tragedy at Posh, the passing of Joan Hill, an unsung hero of a football club, made every player/family welcome and the move there a lot easier. x

Our thoughts are with Joans family and friends at this sad time. RIP Joan

Season Tickets

2013-14 Posh Season Ticket

Season ticket sales for Posh`s 2013-14 League One campaign are going very well and have been described as “brilliant” by club officials.

Posh passed the 4,000 ticket sales barrier at the start of the week and are hoping to at least match the 4,500 tickets sold for last season.

Chris Brewer, Head of Media and Ticketing at Posh, said: “We`ve reached 4,000 which is roughly the same as last season at this point which considering relegation is brilliant.”

If you haven`t got your season ticket, try to get one as it saves you a fair amount of money of the course of the season.

The cost of an adult season ticket for the London Road terrace is the equivalent to £14.13 per match (saving nearly £6 per game) while seating areas equates to £19.57 per match (saving over £5 per game).

Admission prices will be increased for any tickets purchased on the day of the game which means you are making an even bigger saving.

Posh Coffers Boosted By Savers

Norwich and Peterborough Bonus

The Norwich and Peterborough Building Society has handed Posh a cheque for £50,428!

The Building Society has a special “Posh Account” which generates a bonus of 0.5% on all savings made by Posh account using this special Posh account. The bonus is handed over to the club every year and has so far generated over £1 million since the account was launched in July 1999!

N&P`s Branch Network Manager and Posh supporter, Nigel Smith said: ‘We are proud of our longstanding relationship with Peterborough United and are delighted that Posh supporters have helped us to make this sizeable donation to the club.”

Bob Symns, Peterborough United chief executive, said: “The success of our partnership with Norwich & Peterborough is a tribute to the loyalty of the building society and our supporters. We cannot thank them enough.”

Players Placed On Transfer List

Hot on the heels of relegation, DR Congo International Gaby Zakuani has rejected a new contract offered by the club and has been placed on the transfer list.

Posh captain Tommy Rowe has also said he would not be committing his future to Posh beyond the forthcoming season at this point in time. As he is about to enter his last year of his contract, Posh have placed him on the transfer list.

League One Round-Up

Former Posh manager Gary Johnson successfully guided his Yeovil Town side to victory in the League One Play-Off Final against Brentford. Two first half goals were enough to see the Somerset club defeat their London counterparts despite a second half revival which saw Brentford close the gap to just one goal.

Yeovil face a massive challenge in the Championship as they have even less fans than Posh! Last season, they averaged just 4,071 fans compared to Posh`s 8,215 so they will be hoping more fans will start to come through their Huish Park gates but they will be limited as the capacity at their stadium is just 5,212!

As Yeovil leave League One, Bradford City enter it thanks to an emphatic 3-0 win over Northampton Town in the League Two Play-Off Final.

Relegation from the Championship to League One will hit the three teams hard but they won`t be the only ones looking to reduce their budgets. Swindon Town are looking to halve their playing budget from £4.5 million last season to just over £2 million next season!!
