Vital Posh looks at the latest news coming out of Peterborough United over the past week and also what their rival teams in League One are up to.

PRE-SEASON TRAINING

Day 1 - Danny Kearns & NKP on treadmill

The Posh squad reported back for pre-season training on Monday morning.

The players were tested for their fitness and “fat levels” on the first day and had more fitness sessions on Tuesday. They are due to do further fitness sessions this morning before finally getting down to some ball work this afternoon.

CAPTAIN ROWE

Posh boss Darren Ferguson has confirmed that Tommy Rowe is to retain the captaincy despite now being on the transfer list.

Rowe is entering the last year of his contract and has advised Posh that he won`t be signing a new contract. In line with company policy, he has been transfer listed but that hasn`t stopped him from keeping the captains armband!!

COACHING CHANGES

Posh have finally announced the departure of first team coach Eoin Jess. Ben Mackenzie, the head of sports science, has also departed London Road for pastures new.

There was a ready-made replacement for Jess though as Gary Breen had spent the latter part of last season helping out coaching duties. He has now signed a two-year contract at Posh.

LOYALTY SCHEME

Posh Loyalty Scheme

Posh have launched a unique loyalty scheme for Posh fans who are either season ticket holders, foreverposh members, Junior Posh or Posh We Are members.

The scheme enables fans to earn loyalty points which can then be used to purchase merchandise and match tickets.

For those of you who buy tickets, merchandise or coach travel, it is well worth joining.

POSH TRANSFER UPDATE

Millwall have expressed an interest in not one Posh player, but three!! Tyrone Barnett is one of the three but it is not known who the other two players are that are interesting the Championship club. The rumour mill has brought up three names; Tommy Rowe is one of them but other rumours suggest they want Dwight Gayle and Michael Bostwick but they want them for £1 million each!!

Chairman Darragh MacAnthony confirmed on Twitter that he has turned down a £4 million bid for Dwight Gayle. Good man!!

Tommy Rowe is interesting a number of clubs. As well as Millwall, Reading and Leeds United are both reported to be interested in the left sided player and although various Leeds officials have made contact with Barry Fry, no concrete offer has yet been made.

Posh currently have 6 players on the transfer list; all of who have a price tag on their head.

The six players are: Gaby Zakuani, Tommy Rowe, Tyrone Barnett, Emile Sinclair, Danny Kearns and Nicky Ajose.

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLIES

The third home pre-season friendly has finally been announced. Championship side Watford will travel to London Road on Wednesday, 24th July.

It looks like Posh are planning pre-season away days in towns this season. Games have already been confirmed against Nuneaton Town (which has now been cancelled!), Mansfield Town, Northampton Town and Bedford Town (who will face a Posh XI side).

The confirmed home pre-season matches are:

Saturday, 13th July – QPR
Wednesday, 24th July – Watford
Monday, 29th July – Hull City

Tickets for all the home pre-season matches cost just £5 for season ticket holders if bought in advance while the price increases to £10, the same price for non-season ticket holders, if bought on the day. Under 16`s get in for just £5.

The Republic of Ireland tour covers the following matches:

Monday, 2nd July – Shelbourne
Tuesday, 3rd July – UCD

Other pre-season matches are:

Wednesday, 17th July – Mansfield Town
Saturday, 20th July – Northampton Town
Saturday, 27th July – Bedford Town (v Posh XI)

LEAGUE ONE ROUND-UP

Posh will come up against another former player this season after Leyton Orient signed Shaun Batt on a free transfer from Championship side Millwall.

New Wolves manager Kenny Jackett has started life at Molineux by placing four players on the transfer list as he looks to a more young and vibrant squad. Club captain Karl Henry is joined by Jamie O’Hara, Roger Johnson and Stephen Ward on the list of players not required. All four players were part of the Wolves side that has now been relegated in two successive seasons.

Former Posh striker Paul Taylor has been handed a 24-week prison term, suspended for 18 months by a judge at Ipswich Crown Court. He has also been ordered to pay his victim £7,000 in compensation and £750 in costs. Taylor was arrested after the incident at the Robert Ransome pub in Ipswich last October and admitted assault causing actual bodily harm to his victim at a hearing earlier this month.

Ian Wright has left his coaching role at MK Dons just two weeks after assistant manager, Mick Harfod, also left the club. Wright will remain at the club and work on an ad-hoc basis.
