Despite Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson insisting he was happy with the squad he had, it was a busy day at London Road.

Outgoing Players

The main talking point on players exiting the London Road doors centred around Posh`s England Under 21 centre back Ryan Bennett.

Premier League outfit Swansea City were in discussions over purchasing Bennett and with rumours abound involving the Swans buying Bennett and then loaning him back to Posh for the remainder of the season it sounded promising at one point.

However, it emerged early afternoon that Swansea were unhappy with the cost of the deal and they believed they wouldn`t be able to complete the transfer in time.

In the end, no deal could be agreed with Swansea before the 11pm deadline for Bennett did depart London Road for a record fee for a Peterborough United.

Just before the 11pm deadline, he signed a three and a half year deal with Premier League Norwich City which sees him link up with former Posh players Adam Drury and Russell Martin.

Striker Nicky Ajose headed out of the door again for the third time this season on loan. He has signed a youth loan deal which will see him spend the rest of this season at League One basement outfit Chesterfield.

Incoming Players

If Posh were sticking to their guns over the terms of Bennetts sale, they were finding it difficult to get the players they wanted.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony was tweeting earlier in the day saying “Jeez the stress of this transfer deadline business.

“Why is it always such last minute stuff both ways. Frustrating. Not going great sorry to say, all players we after, clubs doing to well & will never sell until the summer. Still time of course but tough.”

An enormous £1.9 million bid was offered by Posh for Crawley Town pair Tyrone Barnett and Kyle McFadzean but the Red Devils, having sold Matt Tubbs to Bournemouth the day before, were having none of it and advised everyone that no further players would be sold.

Former Posh Players

There were a few moves made by former Posh players.

Youngster Kwesi Appiah has moved from Margate to npower Championship side Crystal Palace! Appiah has scored 35 goals in 33 games for the Gate in the Ryman League Premier Division this season. He was released by Blue Square Bet South side Thurrock in the summer! Is he a one season wonder or has he suddenly found the magic touch? Will we regret letting him go?

Scott Rendell has gone on loan to Oxford United from League One side Wycombe Wanderers.

Midfielder Andre Boucaud moved from York to promotion chasing Luton Town for £25,000.

Scott Wootton has gone on loan from his parent club Manchester United to Nottingham Forest. He comes in to replace Wes Morgan who was sold to midlands rivals Leicester City. How we could do with his services now!!
