Peterborough United striker Tom Nichols is a wanted man!

Posh striker Tom Nichols isn`t on the transfer list but he is attracting the attention of two League One clubs!

Nichols finished top scorer for Posh last season with 13 goals in all competitions but he`s not the most popular player amongst Posh fans.

Posh Chairman Darragh MacAnthony was the person who insisted on signing Nichols from Exeter City which was against the wishes of the then Posh manager. Ever since, MacAnthony has backed his player ever since regardless of his performances or glaring misses in front of goal.

Despite those performances and misses and unpopularity, he is a wanted man!

Bristol Rovers put in a double bid for Nichols and fellow striker Luke James, who Rovers had on loan last season. The bid was rejected by Posh while James has subsequently departed the club on a free transfer to new League Two side Forest Green Rovers.

The Pirates have since come back with another offer for Nichols which has also been rejected by Posh as it still falls way short of the valuation Posh have set.

According to MacAnthony, Rovers aren`t the only club to show an interest in Nichols. However, the bid from an unnamed League One side was also less than what Posh believe Nichols is worth.

Posh face the Pirates early in the season so could Posh be holding off until after that match before accepting a bid or is the offer that has been received way short of what Posh want?

Nichols has done reasonably well in the first two pre-season games so far but Posh had their first home pre-season match of the season at home on Saturday against Championship side QPR where Nichols certainly wasn`t at his best. Posh boss Grant McCann has suggested that the transfer situation may have unsettled his player but to many Posh fans, they just saw the same old player from last season offering very little up top although he did play an excellent ball to Junior Morias to score his second goal of the match!

With the start of the season less than three weeks away, it would be better to conclude any transfer activity sooner rather than later as Posh will certainly look to replace Nichols should he depart. Although MacAnthony wouldn`t want to see his player depart, many Posh fans would happily see the back of him even though he looked to link up well with Ricky Miller and Danny Lloyd.

Whether Nichols was unsettled on Saturday is hard to say and as we`ve seen in players previously at the club who have been unsettled by transfer bids, if his head has been turned by the bids then it may be best to say farewell.
