Results are in for the first Vital Posh Player of the Month for the 2013/2014 Season. Who has won the August poll?
After the disappointment of relegation on the final day of last season, Posh knew they had to make a good start to this season and with six wins out of seven matches in August, they`ve certainly done that.
The season started off with a narrow 1-0 win against Swindon Town before an emphatic 5-1 win at Colchester United in the first round of the Capital One Cup. Further wins at Notts County (4-2), Oldham (2-1) and Tranmere (5-0) followed to propel Posh into second place in League One. Leyton Orient were the only other team that had won all their League matches and had a better goal difference than Posh.
Things got even better when they hosted Championship side Reading in round two of the Capital One Cup. The Royals had 8 internationals lining up for them but they left with their tails between their legs after suffering a 6-0 defeat to a rampant Posh. Lee Tomlin was the chief tormentor with three goals but it was Britt Assombalonga who set Posh on their way after scoring in the fourth minute.
Posh ended the month in disappointing fashion going down 2-0 to an impressive Crawley Town outfit.
Despite the disappointing end to the month, the were plenty of highs during the month. New record signing Britt Assombalonga had an excellent start to life at Posh scoring five goals in his first month. Lee Tomlin did one better with 6 goals while transfer listed pairing Tyrone Barnett and Tommy Rowe both have three goals each and it is the former that has also put in many good displays during the month.
The Player of the Month award has taken a new format when voting this season with people voting for their top three players and there were two players who were nominated by over 70% of the voters.
Tyrone Barnett received a vote from 74.19% of the voters but it was Britt Assombalonga who took the overall honours for the first month receiving votes from 87.10% of the voters while 48.39% placed him in first place.
