After a good December, Posh have slipped back again during January!
A winning start was made to the new year with a 2-1 win over Barnsley thanks to a late Tommy Rowe goal four minutes from time but two defeats then followed.
A very disappointing performance by Posh saw them succumb to Premiership Norwich City 3-0 in the FA Cup before ending up on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline at Nottingham Forest.
Hull City were the last team to face Posh in January. An unfortunate own goal by Joe Newell gifted the visitors the lead in the first half and despite being very organised, promotion chasing City created very few clear cut chances. Posh on the otherhand were poor to start off with as the central midfield partnership of Newell and Ferdinand went missing for large parts. It was only the introduction of Grant McCann 30 minutes from time that Posh suddenly came to life.
McCann immediately took charge of the midfield as Posh made a late charge to get back into the game. A driving run by Tommy Rowe took him past two defenders before being upended in the penalty area. McCann stepped up and rifled the ball into the net. Unfortunately, Posh couldn`t go on to win the game but at least they got a point out of it.
Posh started the month in 23rd place but moved out of the bottom three thanks to that Barnsley win. They then slipped down to 22nd after the Forest defeat, but remained in that position after the draw with Hull.
Unfortunately, Posh`s match against Bolton was postponed due to Wanderers involvement in the FA Cup. All the teams around them have played and won since Posh last played meaning we have now slipped to the bottom of the Championship again; six points from safety!!
Despite only having played four matches during the month, who was the player that has stood out during this time?
