Posh travelled to West Bromwich Albion desperate to capitalise on the first in of Mark Copper`s tenure as Posh manager. Sadly that was not to be the case as West Brom overcame our early enthusiasm to pull off a comfortable win.
Gabriel Zakuani shook off his injury problems to take his place in the defence and Cooper persevered with want-away striker Aaron Mclean.
With West Brom tipped, by many, to gain promotion, Posh may have surprised a few people with their bright start. It was a start that saw Posh push West Brom back and both Craig Mackail-Smith and George Boyd were looking impressive.
The home side looked a little tentative and took a while to trouble Joe Lewis in the Posh goal. Thomas dragged a shot wide and Whelpdale was blocking well. In fact Lewis wasn`t forced to make a save until the 31st minute when he saved from Luke Moore.
Zuiverloon then dragged a shot wide from inside the area whilst Whelpdale shot wide for Posh. West Brom were now on top and Lee Frecklington received a yellow card, the first of the game. In stoppage time, Zuiverloon again saw an effort to go wide and Posh had made it to the break all square.
No changes were made at half time by either Cooper or Roberto Di Matteo. West Brom continued where they`d left off and the first stages of the half. Zakuani received a yellow card, joining Frecklington in the book, for unsporting behaviour. Thomas, down Zakuani`s side of the defence was starting to cause Posh all sorts of problems.
Bennett did well to block a Moore shot and from the resulting corner Meite headed over the bar. Sadly the respite was only temporarily when a Dorrans ball found Moore whose shot, via a slight deflection, found the back of the net. Posh, under siege since the start of the half, now had it all to do with half an hour of the match left to play.
Sadly things started to go from bad to worse when a ball into the box was, if you were remarkably honest, comically headed into his own net by Ryan Bennett. Surely, it was all over at 2-0 and the only concern would be how many goals Roberto Di Matteo`s side would get.
Batt on for Coutts, trying to get Posh back into the game, drilled a shot wide. Jara fired wide from thirty-five yards as it became even less likely we`d get back into this one. A late attempt though saw Batt force a great save from Batt as Posh started to enjoy a spell of pressure.
Lewis, who played well throughout the game, pulled off a fine save from Fillipe Teixeira but time was now beginning to run out for Posh.
