This was definitely the toughest match yet of the season for Peterborough United both on and off the pitch!
Posh boss Steve Evans and his Charlton counter-part Lee Bowyer both received yellow cards in separate incidents. Bowyer received his card during the first-half for something he must’ve said to the referee after insults had been traded by both benches! Evans picked his card up at the end of the first 45 minutes when he spoke to the referee about providing more protection for winger Siriki Dembele who was on the end of some not very nice challenges!
On the pitch was just as tough. Both sides had periods of pressure without threatening either goal too much. It took 35 minutes for the Addicks to have the game’s first shot on target and their only shot on target in the match while it took Posh until the hour mark to register theirs!
There was absolutely nothing to split these two sides so a point apiece would’ve been fully deserved. However, an exquisite cross from substitute Marcus Maddison, making his first appearance of the season, nearly found fellow substitute Ivan Toney who was pulled back to stop him getting to the ball. The resulting penalty was coolly put away by loanee striker Jason Cummings to seal a fourth straight victory for Posh in the League.
