Peterborough United goalkeeper Ben Alnwick has been placed on the transfer list just weeks after agreeing a new 3 year contract!

Ben Alnwick

In what comes as a major surprise, Posh goalkeeper Ben Alnwick has asked to go on the transfer list!

It comes just weeks after he agreed terms on a new contract!

He has spoken to Posh boss Grant McCann about the situation who fully understands Alnwicks reasoning and although not happy with the situation, he doesn`t want to keep anyone at the club who doesn`t want to be there.

McCann commented on the situation saying: ‘We are all disappointed because we gave Ben a new three year deal in the summer, but the reasons behind it I can understand. I wouldn’t want to keep someone here who is unhappy and not focussed.’

Many Posh fans were surprised when the club gave the 29-year-old a new 3-year contract in the summer and his performances at the start of the season has seen fans question his position!

Alnwick missed last weeks defeat against Premier League side Swansea City in the EFL Cup after picking up an injury during training and despite being fit for the weekend trip to MK Dons, veteran goalkeeper Mark Tyler found himself in goal once again?and kept the first clean sheet of the season!

The question now is will Posh look to bring a goalkeeper in straight away or wait until they`ve got Alnwick off their books?

Don`t forget to vote in the following polls that are running at the time of print:
