Peterborough United crashed to defeat against 10 man Leyton Orient at the Matchroom Stadium yesterday.

The loss leaves POSH with a mathmatical chance of making the playoffs. Realistically it condemns them to another season in league 2.

But it could have been so very different.

Roared on by a vocal 1000 away supporters you always sensed this match would be something special and it didnt let anyone down.

The fireworks started early on with the disputed penalty that was tucked away by Matt Lockwood (identified as their main threat by this correspondent in the match preview). Connor was sent off for a clear elbow on Paul Carden soon after and we hadn’t seen a quarter of the match as yet!

POSH took control of the game and before half time had brought on Lloyd Opara for Phil Bolland.

It was almost a 3-4-3 formation and although clear cut chances were at a premium you always fancied the visitors would get back into the match.

Half time came and went and the same pattern emerged.

Wayne Corden managed to add to the home sides lead with 20 minutes to go. Neglected on the edge of the area he lashed the ball past an unsighted Mark Tyler to win the points.

The POSH defenders were furious that an offside Orient player had obscured the glovemans view before moving out of the way at the last moment.

The Referees Assistant didnt flag and the goal stood.

Still the visiting fans believed they could get back into the match and that belief bore fruit when Crow and Opara combined well for the Cheshunt loanee pulled a goal back.

If both players are here next season (big IF) then there is plenty for ‘boro fans to look forward to. They could be the partnership that Benjamin and Quinn were supposed to be this term.

One nippy and quick the other powerful and strong. Let’s hope that’s the start of better things to come.

POSH pushed on but it was the O’s who had the better chances in the embers of the match and the ref’s whistle was greeted with joy from the home terraces.
