The man in charge of the Sky Bet League One match between Blackburn Rovers and Peterborough United on Thursday evening is ROSS JOYCE.

Referee Ross Joyce watches Michael Bostwick tackle Steve Morison of Millwall

Referee Ross Joyce has been refereeing since the age of 15 and became the youngest referee (29) in the Football League when he made his debut in the 2015/2016 season.

Now in his third season as a Football League official, Joyce will be taking charge of his third Posh match after overseeing two previous victories for the boys in blue.

The first time saw Posh hit five goals in mid-August 2016 when Millwall were the visitors to the ABAX Stadium. First half goals from Marcus Maddison, Paul Taylor and Gwion Edwards gave Posh a healthy half-time lead before Edwards and Tom Nichols extended their lead in the second half. Veteran Steve Morison scored a consolation goal eleven minutes from time. Four yellow cards were shared between both sides.

Six yellow cards were dished out in the second Posh match officiated by Joyce. It was also a match played in mid-August but this time it came this season when Rotherham United were the visitors. The Millers received five of those cards while their on-loan striker Keiffer Moore scored their only goal of the game which was sandwiched between two Jack Marriott goals.

Rovers have also had the pleasure of Joyce twice with both matches coming this season. They won both matches two-one; the first against Bristol Rovers with the second at Walsall. Three yellow cards were shown in the match against the Pirates with the visitors picking up two of them while the Saddlers picked up both cards in their match.

So far this season Joyce has officiated 38 matches issuing 142 yellow cards and 2 red cards.

His last match came just over a week ago when Coventry City visited Nottingham to play County. The Magpies won two-one with both sides scoring a goal each in the final five minutes. Six yellow cards were shown during the match with four going to the Sky Blues.

The last League One match Joyce came on Easter Monday when Bristol Rovers made the trip north to face Fleetwood Town. The Cod Army won two-nil with both goals coming in the final twelve minutes. The Pirates had midfielder Chris Lines sent off just before the hour mark. Two yellow cards were also shown with both sides picking up one each with former Posh midfielder Toumani “Dave” Diagouraga picking up the card for Fleetwood.

His highest card tally this season came towards the end of August when much-fancied Luton Town rocked up at Mansfield Town, who were then managed by Steve Evans who is now in charge of Posh. The Stags scored a goal in each half with their second from former Posh striker Lee Angol but two goals in the last five minutes earned the Hatters a share of the spoils. However, an incredible 12 yellow cards were shown during the match with both sides receiving six cards each. Surprisingly no one was sent off!

The assistant referees for the Blackburn Rovers v Posh clash are Graeme Fyvie and Ian Dudley. The fourth official is Anthony Backhouse.
