The man in charge of the Sky Bet League One match between Plymouth Argyle and Peterborough United on Saturday is CRAIG HICKS.

Referee Craig Hicks received his promotion from a Level 2A to a Level 1 Referee towards the end of May 2017, meaning that for the 2017/18 season he will be officiating in the English Football League, Leagues 1 and 2 for the first time.

Hicks began refereeing within Surrey FA in 2001, and has since gone on to officiate at a wide level of football, starting on the grassroots leagues across Surrey, before progressing through numerous leagues up to the National League.

After gaining promotion, Hicks, who took charge of the 2016 Surrey County Cup Final between Merstham and Godalming Town, said: “I am very pleased to be promoted to the Football League, and I can`t wait for the new season to begin.”

Since arriving in the Football League this season, Hicks has officiated both the Pilgrims and Posh in home matches.

Hicks took charge of the Pilgrims match against Fleetwood Town in early October when Argyle were struggling at the foot of the table. The match didn`t go the way of the home side either as they went down two-one. Four yellow cards were shown in the match with all four going to the Cod Army.

For Posh, it was a match against Portsmouth the following month. Hicks showed three players a yellow, two of which were Posh players with Posh also winning two-one. The match was goalless at half-time but Posh struck first through top scorer Jack Marriott just before the hour mark before doubling their advantage through a Matthew Clarke own goal just over ten minutes later. Pompey did pull a goal back eight minutes later via Conor Chaplin but they couldn`t level things.

So far this season Hicks has officiated 33 matches issuing 109 yellow cards and 4 red cards.

His last match came on Good Friday down the road at the Shabby in a match that Cambridge United won three-one against Crawley Town. No cards were shown during the match!

The last League One match Hicks took charge of was back in mid-February when table toppers Shrewsbury Town hosted mid-table Gillingham. The Shrews opened the scoring after 14 minutes through Abu Ogogo but they had to settle for a draw when the Gills equalised with just eight minutes remaining when Mark Byrne somehow scored from a tight angle into the top corner of the net. Both sides shared the two yellow cards dished out during the game.

The assistant referees for the Plymouth Argyle v Posh clash are Kevin Morris and Justin Amey. The fourth official is Scott Jackson.
