The man in charge of the first Sky Bet League One match of the season between Rochdale and Peterborough United is DAVID WEBB.

Referee David Webb leads out Posh and Oldham

A Lancashire-based official takes charge of the first Posh match of the season which is an away fixture at Lancashire side Rochdale.

David Webb is starting his ninth season as a Football League official and has taken charge of nine Posh matches and 10 Dale matches.

Since Vital Posh have been running the “Rate the Ref” polls, David Webb has featured just once receiving an overall rating of 43%!

The statistics are broken down by the following categories:-

40% – Decision Making
28% – Consistency
60% – Fitness and Positioning
44% – Control and Authority

Neither Posh or Dale have a good record with Webb in charge. Posh have won three and lost the other six matches while Rochdale have won two, drawn three and lost five times.

Rochdale have also seen one of their players dismissed in two of the last three matches Webb has been in charge! The last match was in mid-December when Rochdale travelled to Swindon Town and had a man receive his marching orders after only 12 minutes! Despite midfielder John O`Sullivan being sent off early for a straight red card, they only lost the match 2-1.

Posh also had a player sent off last season by Webb. That came in added time of the three-nil FA Cup win at Burton Albion when Jack Baldwin made his comeback from injury but over-enthusiasm saw him mistime a challenge and receive a straight red. Just one other card was issued in that match and it went to the left-back from Burton. The yellow card was shown to a player that Posh have signed on a permanent deal this week – Jerome Binnom-Williams!

The last time Webb refereed Posh was towards the end of February when Posh played host to Oldham Athletic. Keith Hill was scheduled to officiate the match but had to drop out at the last minute and was replaced by Webb. The Latics took a second minute lead but were pegged back by a Marcus Maddison goal after 39 minutes. Oldham went on to take all three points when they scored a penalty in the 73rd minute. Three yellow cards were shown in the match with just one going to Posh and it was that man again Jack Baldwin who collected the card.

Last season, Webb refereed 37 matches issuing 103 yellow cards and seven red cards.

The last match Webb refereed was on the final Sunday of the season in the League One clash between Bradford City and Chesterfield. The Bantams, who finished in the play-offs scored after seven minutes before wrapping things up with three minutes to go. Two yellow cards and one red card were shown in the match with all the cards going to Spireites players.

The assistant referees for the Dale v Posh clash are Graeme Fyvie and Barry Gordon. The fourth official is Mark Dwyer.
