The man in charge of the Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round match between West Bromwich Albion and Peterborough United is KEVIN FRIEND.

Kevin Friend

After all the rookie and woeful referee`s Posh have had in recent time, it`s nice to have an experienced referee.

Leicestershire-based Premier League official Kevin Friend takes charge of proceedings between West Bromwich Albion and Peterborough United.

Friend has well over 10 years Football League experience with the last six seasons as a Premier League official.

During his time in the Football League, Friend has refereed the Baggies on 16 occasions resulting in 4 wins and four draws with eight defeats! The last two times have seen West Brom win though although both came away from the Hawthorns.

The last time Friend took charge of the Baggies was towards the end of October when they traveled to East Anglia to visit Norwich City. A Jose Salomon Rondon goal a minute into the second half was all that was needed to win the match. Three yellow cards were issued during the match with two going to the Baggies Chris Brunt and James McLean.

Of those 16 matches, just one was an FA Cup match and that came in the third round during the 2008/09 season when Peterborough United were the visitors to the Hawthorns!

Jonas Olsson opened the scoring just after the hour mark but Posh never gave up and were rewarded for their effort with an equaliser through Craig Mackail-Smith just three minutes from time! No cards were shown in the match.

Posh haven`t had the pleasure of Friend as often as the Baggies. Friend has refereed just five matches involving Posh with just one ending in defeat. Of the other four matches, Posh won two and drew two.

The last time Posh had Friend as the man in the middle was back in the 2009/10 season when Crystal Palace traveled to London Road for a Championship match. The August clash ended even with both sides scoring one goal each. Shaun Batt opened the scoring for Posh after 53 minutes but the Eagles leveled things just eleven minutes later through Alan Lee. Four yellow cards were shown with both sides receiving two yellow cards each. Sadly for Palace`s Paddy McCarthy, he received both of them with the second one coming after 74 minutes.

So far this season, Friend has refereed 18 matches issuing 57 yellow cards and four red cards.

The last match Friend refereed came in the last round of the FA Cup! That match, nearly 3 weeks ago, saw Premier League Swansea travel to League Two side Oxford United. Friend witnessed one of the shocks of the round after Oxford scored three goals within the first 15 minutes of the second half! Swansea were leading one-nil at half-time and pulled a goal back with around 25 minutes remaining of the match but they couldn`t get the equaliser. Friend showed his yellow card four times in that match with all four going to the visitors!

The assistant referees for the Baggies v Posh clash are Simon Long and James Mainwaring. The fourth official is Dean Whitestone.
