Welcome to the next Posh Weekly as we look at the latest news coming out of Peterborough United, what their rival teams in League One are up to and general footie news.

POSH AT HOME ON OPENING DAY OF SEASON!

After facing successive trips to Rochdale on the opening day of the last two seasons, Posh have finally received a home match.

Plymouth Argyle, who finished runners-up in League Two last season, will travel to Posh for the opening day fixture. You can find out who Posh are playing on other key dates HERE.

POSH ATTRACT THE BEES

Posh have received a home tie in the EFL Cup against League Two side Barnet.

The match will take place during the first week of the season although it is anticipated that the match will probably take place on Tuesday, 8th August, 2017.

The two sides actually met in competitive action (if you can call it that!) in the third and final group game of the Checkatrade Trophy last season. Both sides were already out of the competition so it was a “nothing” match! Posh won that match thanks to a goal from Paul Taylor after six minutes and the winner from Barnsley loanee George Moncur six minutes from the end.

McBURNIE PREFERS CHAMPIOSNHIP TO THE ABAX

Chris Forrester tackles Swanseas Olli McBurnie

Posh have tried to bring in young Swansea City striker Ollie McBurnie but sadly, the 21-year-old is hoping to hook up with a Championship club.

The striker has only made six appearances for the Swans and scored just two goals. Those goals came on his senior Swans debut which came against Posh in the EFL Cup last season! Apart from those few games for Swansea, McBurnie hasn`t played any higher than League Two so it`s a bit disappointing he couldn`t show his talents in League One with Posh before moving up another level.

JEROME BINNOM-WILLIAMS DEPARTS

Left-back Jerome Binnom-Williams has joined League Two side Chesterfield after having his contract cancelled by mutual consent.

The 22-year-old only joined Posh last season on a two-year deal after Posh paid an undisclosed fee to Crystal Palace but was unable to make the left-back position his own making just 15 appearances.

OTHER POSH NEWS

The following are a few other pieces of news to come out relating to Posh:

Charlton Athletic boss Karl Robinson has ruled out any move for Posh midfielder Marcus Maddison.

Four clubs have had bids rejected for Michael Bostwick but Darragh MacAnthony expects all four to come back with higher bids!

POSH RUMOUR MILL

Michael Smith`s potential move to Coventry City has been temporarily halted as there is now a Scottish Premier club showing an interest in him. Motherwell and Hibs have both been rumoured to be the club interested in the right back although MacAnthony has ruled out Motherwell..

Mansfield Town boss Steve Evans has already signed 12 players so far and it is believed he wants to add Posh midfielder Brad Inman to his ranks. According to some media, Posh are looking to bring in £170,000 for the player they signed from Crewe Alexandra a year ago!

Left-back Callum Elder looks as though he may be available again either on loan or for a fee. Elder was a hit when he played for Posh before injury struck which saw him return to his parent club Leicester City. He had an injury ravaged season on loan last season as he made less than 10 appearances, firstly for Brentford and then for Barnsley. He`d certainly be a good addition to the squad if he could remain fit but we feel that boat has sailed and he won`t be returning to the ABAX.

However, if rumours are to be believed, Barry Fry has been in touch with Leicester City about bringing in someone. Could this be Elder or is it the goalkeeper we are hoping to sign from a Premier League side? Could it be the Denmark Under-19 International Daniel Iverson but would Posh go with two teenagers to battle it out for the number one spot?

Derby County are rumoured to be interested in transfer listed Marcus Maddison! Aston Villa and Birmingham City are also rumoured to be in the frame for signing the influential midfielder.

LEAGUE ONE ROUND-UP

Oxford United are looking for a new manager after Michael Appleton joined Leicester City to become assistant to Craig Shakespeare.

Portsmouth`s pre-season fixture with Cardiff City has been postponed! The game has been called off after both sides were drawn against each other in the EFL Cup.

Fleetwood Town manager Uwe Rosler has extended his contract to 2020 but he looks like losing three senior players from last season who all appear to have turned down new contracts. Conor McLaughlin, Jimmy Ryan and former Posh striker David Ball are now expected to sign for new clubs within the next week.

OTHER NEWS OF INTEREST

Former Posh right-back Mark Little has, as we reported recently, remained in the Championship after leaving Bristol City. The 28-year-old has signed a two-year deal with newly promoted Bolton Wanderers.

Former Posh defender Nat Knight-Percival got married at the weekend. Many congratulations Nat!
