Vital Posh looks at the latest news coming out of Peterborough United over the past week and also what their rival teams in League One are up to.
MARK LITTLE TO LEAVE POSH
Mark Little has turned down the new contract offered to him by Peterborough United. The right-back will now depart London Road when his contract expires at the end of the month.
League One rivals Rotherham United are thought to be interested in Little as The Millers make the step up from League Two after finishing runners-up to Gillingham.
POSH TRANSFER UPDATE
As mentioned above, Mark Little is due to depart London Road at the end of June. Little follows George Boyd and Jonson Clarke-Harris out of Posh although he won`t be the last one to leave Posh.
Posh currently have 6 players on the transfer list all of who have a price tag on their head.
The six players are: Gaby Zakuani, Tommy Rowe, Tyrone Barnett, Emile Sinclair, Danny Kearns and Nicky Ajose.
According to Barry Fry, striker Emile Sinclair has generated a fair bit of interest as has Tommy Rowe but no offers have been forthcoming as yet.
No deal is yet in place for Posh to sign Jack Payne from Gillingham but he is generating interest at other clubs!!
PRE-SEASON FRIENDLIES
Posh have announced ticket prices for the two pre-season friendlies they have confirmed so far.
Season ticket holders can buy tickets for just £5 but they must do so before the day of the game. Tickets bought on the day or by non-season ticket holders will cost £10 for adults and £5 for under 16s.
Posh are hoping the excellent prices will encourage more people to come to the matches after the disappointing turn out last season when Posh were charging £25!!!
The confirmed home pre-season matches are:
Saturday, 13th July – QPR
Monday, 29th July – Hull City
GARY BREEN CONFIRMED AS COACH
Former Posh defender Gary Breen has been confirmed as the new first team coach after signing a two-year contract with the club.
The 39-year-old ex-Republic of Ireland International helped out in an unofficial capacity at the end of last season which coincided with improved defensive display culminating in five clean sheets.
BEST AWAY DAY
Posh celebrated at the Radio 5 Live 606 awards night this week.
They picked up the award for “Best Away Day”!
It just goes to show how popular the Moys End is and how “safe-standing” would be embraced by fans.
POSH TIPPED FOR TITLE
Rotherham United manager Steve Evans is convinced Posh will win the League One title this season.
He believes by retaining the services of Darren Ferguson and the majority of the squad from last season, Posh can pip Wolves to the title.
LEAGUE ONE ROUND-UP
Kenny Jackett has been named as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers. He was one of 75 applicants for the position with 12 of those being interviewed for the job but it was Jackett who came out on top.
Jackett is also determined to get Wolves promoted at the first attempt as he told BBC WM: “We want to get promoted this year. Is it going to be easy? No, but it’s a challenge that we are relishing and looking forward to.’
The deadline for potential owners of Coventry City to declare their interest has been extended to this Friday [7th June]. Two serious backers from overseas are now in discussions with the administrators with a view that one or both may submit an offer for the club.
Oldham Athletic may be the next club to be taken over, but not by multi-billionaires. Former Chester City owner Stephen Vaughan is fronting a consortium who is interested in taking over the Lancashire club.
It looks like Brentford have done what many Posh fans would love to hear about and that is submit plans for a brand new stadium! The Bees bought a 7.6 acre site last year and have now submitted plans for a 20,000 seater stadium along with 910 residential apartments.
TRANSFER MERRY-GO-ROUND
As you would expect at this time of year, there are only a handful of signings being made by clubs.
Stevenage have been the busiest so far signing five players while releasing four players.
Former Posh Player of the Season, Charlie Lee, has been made available for transfer by Gillingham following their promotion from League Two.
