The latest Posh Weekly looks at the latest news coming out of Peterborough United over the past week and also what their rival teams in League One are up to.

TURNER MEMORIAL ENDS IN BOREFEST

Posh finished their home pre-season with a below par performance in the Chris Turner Memorial against local rivals Cambridge United.

The fact that the number of players that went off injured was greater than the number of clear cut chances made by both sides tells a story.

If you`d been away from Posh without any knowledge of what has gone on over the last six months, then you would`ve thought Darren Ferguson was still in charge! When in possession, Posh often played the ball along the back, just as they did under Fergie. The only difference is Jack Collison often joined in the passing practice between the players!

Posh started off with what many expect to be the starting line-up next weekend but Harry and Jermaine Anderson both came on as substitutes and put in good displays which will certainly make manager Dave Robertson consider his team carefully especially after the lacklustre display put in by the first XI on display in this match.

The U`s started off the brighter side and bossed much of the game but they are very blunt up front. If they can change that then they will be a force to be reckoned with in League Two.

Posh will need to improve greatly on this performance and work out quickly how to overcome any team that puts 11 men behind the ball.

POSH IN PINK!

Peterborough United launched their new away kit this week and, as expected, it`s pink!

Well, the actual colour is described as “cherry volt” and it has gone down very well with many Posh fans with a lot of shirts already having been purchased.

The shirt will get its first outing tomorrow when Posh kick-off their first League match of the season at Rochdale.

NEWELL DEPARTS BUT PAYNE REMAINS

Posh midfielder Joe Newell has left the club! He spent part of last week on trial at Championship side Rotherham United and played in their win over German side FSV Mainz 05. He played the whole match at left-back and provided a pin point pass to set up the winner.

Millers manager Steve Evans was happy to capture Newell as it gives him more alternatives down the left hand side.

While Newell left the club, fellow midfielder Jack Payne remained at the club. Talks broke down between Posh and Leyton Orient, where he`d spent some time on trial, although the O`s are still keen on the former Posh captain. He has rarely featured for Posh during pre-season but he did play in the defeat against Bishop`s Stortford on Tuesday evening.

Another former Posh player is in the news, this time Craig Morgan. Morgan has been named the new captain of League One title favourites Wigan Athletic.

OTHER NEWS OF INTEREST

Former Posh striker Craig Mackail-Smith has signed a two-year deal with League Two side Luton Town. CMS has spent much of pre-season on trial with the Hatters and has now won a contract. If he can get back to just half the form he showed in his Posh days then the Hatters will pose a real threat going forward this season.

Izale McLeod is throwing his toys out of his pram again as he looks to force his way out of relegated Crawley Town. He watched their latest pre-season match from the stands and had been “ill” for the three previous matches! A team have put a bid in for him but it didn`t match Crawley`s valuation of the player. Notts County and Milwall are both known to be interested in the striker. Town have said that if no one matches the fee they want for the striker then McLeod will watch Town`s matches from the stands this season! He was also left out of the official team photo.

Kane Ferdinand, who departed the ABAX Stadium recently, has joined Dagenham and Redbridge on an initial one-month contract!

With the season kicking off this weekend, the Posh Weekly will revert to its usual midweek slot from next week.
