The Football League is back again and with it, the arrival of Bristol Rovers to the ABAX Stadium for the opening match of the season.
Most matches on the opening day are cagey affairs and we expect this to be a very close one due to the number of personnel changes Posh have made in the summer. It will take a while for all the new players to bed in to the club and start to gel but while that happens, the opposition will hope they can take advantage!
While Posh have seen 18 players leave the club and 15 new players come in, Rovers have seen five players leave and six new players arrive.
Last season, Posh finished 9th in League One, five points ahead of 13th placed Rovers. They shared the points in the corresponding fixture last season with a one-all draw. Both goals came in a four minute spell just before the hour mark. Rovers went ahead after 55 minutes but Danny Lloyd levelled things up to earn a point for Posh.
The reverse fixture was a completely different story. Leading one-nil at half-time thanks to a Jack Marriott goal, Posh eventually ran out 4-1 winners with Marriott scoring a hat-trick which he completed in the 95th minute.
Can Posh repeat that success from last August or will it be a closer affair like the fixture at the ABAX last March?
