Decision day over Lewis

Peterborough United goalkeeper is back at Premier League outfit QPR this week for a continuation of his trial.

Lewis spent four days at Rangers last week and played for the reserves in a 2-2 draw with Leyton Orient.

He has travelled back to London to continue his trial this week and play in another reserve team game tomorrow [Tuesday 13th December, 2011].

QPR are expected to make a decision on whether to buy Lewis in January or decide against it.

QPR first choice keeper Paddy Kenny could be out for two months with a calf injury and back-up Brian Murphy is also injured so the R’s are looking to bring in another keeper.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson is happy for Lewis to go to QPR but he is also keen to retain his services.

Ferguson said: “It was a business decision to let him go to QPR so they could have a look at him, but picking him for the first team was entirely my decision and I did it for football reasons.

“I have two goalkeepers good enough for the Championship and I felt the time was right last week to give Paul Jones a rest and for Joe to play.

“As for Joe`s future, QPR rang us up and said they wanted to have a look at him. We didn`t see the harm in that, but I`m not sure about him going back there this week.

“If they wanted to look at him again they could have come to the game at Leicester.

“We are talking to Joe because we want him to stay, but we are a long way apart in our negotiations at the moment.

“We have spent between £600,000-£700,000 on Joe so losing him for nothing at the end of the season is not what we want either.

“It`s very disappointing the news about Joe at QPR leaked out, especially on the morning of a game, but we don`t seem to be able to keep quiet about anything at this club.”
