DMAC Rules Out Main Contenders

Darragh MacAnthony has taken to Twitter to answer fans questions, which inevitably revolve around the vacant managers position. DMAC has ruled out a number of the bookies favourites in a string of tweets sent out this evening.

MK Dons manager, Karl Robinson’s future at stadium:mk is in doubt following comments made by Dons Chairman Pete Winkleman, who suggested he may look at making changes for next season following his sides relegation from the Sky Bet Championship. Robinson was a surprise inclusion in the bookies odds, and a move to the ABAX Stadium never looked likely for a man who has publicly put the quality of the Posh side in question, especially during our time in the Championship. When asked if Robinson was an option, DMAC simply said ‘no’ (thank heavens!)

Another one, understandably denied was another return for Darren Ferguson. A match made in heaven at the beginning of DMAC’s reign at the club, a love affair which both men have promised won’t occur for a third time. Fergie had some tremendous years at the club, with 3 promotions in 2 spells at the club, but also his share of poor games, results, and ultimately, seasons. It’d make no sense for DMAC to go back to a man who’s style of football was completely sussed out by our opponents – so again, it’s good to hear that Darren won’t return.

Forest Green Rovers of the Vanarama National sacked their manager, Adrian Pennock, just a week before the playoffs begun, which sparked rumours on Twitter that he may be about to move on to bigger and better things. As usual when the Posh job is available, every man and his dog are linked with the role and Pennock’s hat was thrown into the rumour mill, only to be quashed by Darragh MacAnthony this evening. A manager who hasn’t managed at a particularly high level, and doesn’t comply with the job requirements set out by the chairman – ruling this one out was a no brainer.

The next man to come into question was one of the favourites for the job – Steve Cotterill. He’s been there and done it in League One, winning promotion in spectacular style with Bristol City, before being sacked from his post after a below par Championship season. He’s been out of work since his stint at Ashton Gate and has made clear his intentions to get back into management as soon as he can. However, surprisingly, his name was also ruled out by the Posh chairman, who suggested Cotterill’s preference towards signing older, more experienced players, would’ve seen a clash in philosophies, effectively making this one a no go.

As ever, Posh fan, Steve Evans has been linked with the job. He’s always expressed his desire at becoming the Peterborough United one day, but has done a relatively good job with Leeds United in the Championship, so is expected to be kept on there for next season. Darragh didn’t completely rule this one out, though. He merely suggested that Evans had done a good job at Leeds and didn’t expect him to be moving clubs over the summer – not suggesting he wouldn’t be interested should the current Leeds man become available. Evans does has a good record of promotions, having won a Darren Ferguson style double promotion with Rotherham United, only to be sacked mid way through there Championship season, following a disagreement with the clubs directors.
