Former Aston Villa teenage goalkeeper Aidan Grant has joined up with the Peterborough United squad as they head out for a week in Portugal.

Regular reserve goalkeeper Joe Day was a surprise omission from the Posh squad on Saturday as they beat Barnet but it appears Posh are now casting their eye over another youngster.

Aidan Grant, 19 years-old and standing 6ft 5 inches, was on the books of Aston Villa having originally started his career at Newcastle United when just 13-years-old. He joined Villa during the 2012-13 campaign but was released at the end of last season and is now looking for a new club. He has arrived at Posh via Cambridge United who he spent last week with!

Grant did spend some time on loan last season with Arlesey Town where he played 13 times.

He joined up with the Posh squad today though as they headed out to Portugal for five days.

Could Day`s absence on Saturday mean that he could be departing London Road? He was placed on the transfer list at the end of last season but that was for the simple reason that he was about to enter the final year of his contract and club policy means that anyone entering their final year will be placed on the transfer list. The same applied to regular first choice keeper Bobby Olejnik who also found himself on the transfer list with one year remaining of his contract.

With both first team keepers on the transfer list, Posh are obviously looking at potential targets and will be paying close attention to Grant during the week.
