Vital Posh looks at previous matches between Walsall and Peterborough United ahead of today`s Sky Bet League One match.

Walsall Away

Posh travel to the West Midlands for the live Sky Sports Monday Night football match against Walsall.

The two sides have met 38 times in League action with the Saddlers having a better win record of 16 wins to 13. There have been 9 draws.

Despite Walsall having the better record against Posh, Posh have won the last four matches between the two teams.

The last time Walsall and Posh clashed in the league was three seasons ago winning 4-1 at London Road and 3-1 at the Banks` Stadium. There are just five members of the team that won 4-1 who still remain at Posh and one of them was on the scoresheet that day.

Walsall v Posh 2010-11 programme

Posh remained in the play-off positions as they defeated Walsall 3-1. Under the guidance of Gary Johnson, Posh were in 4th place after 15 matches and just two points from second place. They were 9 points behind leaders Brighton and Hove Albion though!

Joe Lewis made a fine stop from Ryan McGivern as the home side looked to take an early lead but it was defender Ryan Bennett who headed in an Arron Davies free-kick to give Posh the lead.

Arron Davies drilled in a second from the edge of the area just two minutes later to give Posh a comfortable lead after just 17 minutes of the match.

Walsall did get back into the game in the second half as they reduced the deficit thanks to a Julian Gray header from a Martin Devaney but it was another defender who extended Posh`s lead. This time Kelvin Langmead fired in from a Davies corner.

Speaking to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire after the match, Gary Johnson said: “We tinkered with the shape a bit to have an extra midfielder in there and I thought the boys put in a really good shift.

“Walsall got the ball forward very quickly, they had a few big lads in there, our three defenders had to deal with it and I thought generally they dealt with it well. When they didn’t, our goalkeeper was there.”
