On the surface I suppose it was a game we`d have been looking to win.

Ipswich Town, like ourselves, have been languishing in the relegation zone for some time, they`ve also found points hard to come by. Therefore, you`d expect that we`d have marched into Portman Road, scored a couple and walked away with the three points.

But life isn`t like that when you`re fighting a relegation fight and every last point has to be battled for and that`s exactly what Peterborough United did last night.

In the face of some serious Ipswich pressure the team stepped forward, held firm and took a valuable away point, a point from a side who back in August probably held the same play-off aspirations as we did.

True there was the odd scare, Joe Lewis was forced into making some memorable saves, one from Grant Leadbitter caught my eye and we did survive an almighty scare when Stern John headed home and wheeled away in celebration only to be penalized for a foul.

Was it a goal? The Ipswich Town manager, Roy Keane, whose never short of an opinion or two, certainly thought so, remarking in his post match press conference,

“I always judge by the reaction of both sets of players, particularly the opposition, and I didn`t see any of their players appealing.”

“The only person who thought it was a foul was the referee.”

Bitter? Off course he is!

As for our own manager, Mark Cooper, who has now only lost one game in the four he`s been in charge of, although we should point out he`s yet to savour a win, had his own version on events last night, remarking,

“Every one of my players worked his socks off.”

“They all put their bodies on the line.”

“It was a resolute performance, being greedy we could have nicked it.”

We could well have done but the important thing was not to lose and although our task, as the festive season approaches, grows harder by the day, you get the feeling that Cooper will have his Posh team fighting until the very last minute of the very last day of the season.
